Ames Area Construction was founded from a lifelong passion for building, problem-solving, and transforming spaces with purpose.

Zach’s love for construction began as a teenager near Fort Benton, Montana, working on projects on his family farm and crafting recurve bows by hand. He later met Julie in Texas where they attended a two-year Bible school, Zach continuing in construction before the two decided to settle in Ames — where Julie grew up and where they chose to raise their family.

A temporary role at Danfoss turned into 21 years of service and diverse professional experience, including Lean principles, remanufacturing, and global service work with Caterpillar. Throughout those years, Zach continued hands-on construction and remodeling projects — building furniture, reworking layouts, and completing everything from new flooring, kitchens and bathrooms to decks, porches, and exteriors.

Julie comes from a construction family herself, with deep roots in the industry. Together, they bring a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, design, and thoughtful improvement.

Having raised four children in Ames, Zach and Julie are deeply invested in the community they serve. Ames Area Construction exists to help homeowners create spaces that are functional, meaningful, and built with care — spaces that truly support everyday life.
